The transition into a research degree can be both daunting and exciting. You’re called upon to apply yourself with a much higher level of independent thinking, planning and activity.
In this, the Graduate Research School provides both assistance and professional development opportunities to ensure you can make the most of your research study journey.
Support on your graduate research journey
Discover the broad range of support services provided for HDR students at UWA.
Initial enrolment
We provide assistance and advice to prospective research students. Our staff can help you identify your eligibility for an HDR course, plus the Schools and research areas that best fit your areas of interest.
Research proposals
We can provide a range of support to help you write and submit your proposal to secure approval. This includes step-by-step guidelines for the process, and workshops run by the Graduate Education Officers (GEOs).
Research scholarships
There are many postgraduate research scholarships available for students at UWA. The GRS administers these, and assists with your application and the allocation of scholarships.
Online induction units
These online modules provide a detailed overview of Graduate Research Training at UWA, from enrolment through to graduation. Refer back to them at any time if you have questions.
Induction events
Induction and orientation events offer opportunities to meet key people in your course, to discover valuable information and strategies for your studies, and to learn where to go for help and advice.
GRS Welcomes
Held every month, these gatherings can be attended in person or online. They’re an opportunity to meet other newly enrolled students and ask GRS staff any questions.
Research internships
To help you get the most out of your research studies, the GRS encourages and assists you to undertake relevant internships. You may choose to design your own internship with an industry partner. Or you may opt to enrol in a pre-existing internship program.
Training and development
The GRS provides training and development for postgraduate research students and supervisors.
Annual progress report
The GRS will follow up to ensure the submission of your Annual Progress Report, which is due each year on the anniversary of your commencement.
Thesis submission
We'll provide you with assistance and advice to ensure the optimal submission of your research thesis, and will appoint examiners for this.
GRS Newsletters
These are issued regularly to keep you updated on events and other happenings in and around the GRS community, and provide opportunities to register for events and keep track of the GRS calendar.
Guided or virtual tours
