This micro-credential, based on the Graduate Diploma in Dental Sleep Medicine, streamlines the knowledge required by dental health professionals to successfully manage adult and paediatric patients with obstructive sleep related breathing disorders such as snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea.

This micro-credential will allow students to expand their knowledge in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with obstructive sleep related breathing disorders.

At the end of the course students should be competent in treating and managing patients with obstructive sleep related breathing disorders.

Develop an understanding of the pathophysiology of obstructive sleep related breathing disorders.

Acquire the ability to evaluate patients at risk of obstructive sleep related disordered breathing, recognising the signs and symptoms of snoring and obstructive sleep apoea.

Develop an appreciation of the medical conditions related to obstructive sleep related breathing disorders.

 Acquire the ability to recognise and diagnose the dental conditions related to obstructive sleep related breathing disorders.

Be able to recognise medical comorbidities and make appropriate referrals.

Appreciate the current (non-dental) treatment modalities for obstructive sleep related breathing disorders.

Understand treatment protocols for obstructive sleep related breathing disorders which involve dental interventions.

Be able to formulate treatment plans and select suitable oral appliances for treating obstructive sleep related breathing disorders.

Develop a high-level understanding of the use of oral appliances in the management of obstructive sleep related breathing disorders.

Recognise similarities and differences in the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep related breathing disorders in paediatric patients compared to adult patients.

How does it work?

This exclusively online course provides evidenced-based education which equips students with the knowledge and required skills to facilitate the treatment of obstructive sleep related breathing disorders with oral or dental appliances.

Over a 22 week period you will be required to complete 10 x multiple choice assessments, a 500 word assignment, and a final exam which assesses course outcomes across the 10 modules.
