The University of Western Australia is offering sporting scholarships to high-performing athletes, coaches and officials from across the globe who study with us.
This significant scholarship will be awarded to high-performing athletes, coaches and officials from across the globe who study with us.
If you’re looking to study in Australia in 2024, undergraduate students can receive scholarships of up to AUD$48,000* over 4 years on eligible courses or AUD$36,000* over 3 years; postgraduate students can receive up to AUD$24,000* over two years on eligible courses.
Up to AUD$48,000* over four years for undergraduates commencing eligible courses in Semester 1, 2025.
Up to AUD$36,000* over three years for undergraduates commencing eligible courses in Semester 1, 2025.
Up to AUD$24,000* over two years for postgraduates commencing eligible courses in Semester 1, 2025.
*The final Global Sporting Excellence Award will be assessed by Admissions on the submission of academic transcript. To determine your eligibility, please refer to the ATAR/WAM table.

In addition to the above criteria, the eligible applicant judged to be the highest rated student athlete, coach or official (according to UWA Sport criteria) among the candidate pool will be awarded the maximum scholarship value of $12,000 per year in 2024.
*An equivalent ATAR or WAM is determined by UWA Admissions having regards to the previous study used to gain entry into the University. Equivalent scores many vary occasionally.
Eligibility
General eligibility
Students from all countries can apply. You will need to:
- have received an offer for an undergraduate or postgraduate course at The University of Western Australia.
- have achieved an equivalent:
- minimum ATAR 85.00; or
- minimum WAM 65.00
- If studying an approved International Academic Pathway (Articulation Program), students must have achieved a WAM equivalent of more than 75.00

Sports eligibility
- Athletes are required to register and play for the UWA-affiliated sporting club of the student’s chosen field in which the scholarship was awarded and on the proviso that the UWA club competes in the highest available domestic league.
- Coaches are required to register and coach within the UWA-affiliated sporting club of the student’s chosen field in which the scholarship was awarded.
- Sport officials are required to register and officiate within the WA state sporting league of the student’s chosen field.
- Be available, where practicable, to represent/coach/officiate for the University in university national and international events.
- Meet tier 3 or above of UWA Student Athlete Program (SADP) classification—
- National underage team member. For example: Youth Olympic team member;
- WA Institute of Sport (WAIS) (or equivalent institute) squad member/scholarship holder;
- National league team player/professional club player squad member, for example: West Coast Fever player;
- World University Championships or World University Games team member; or
- Be an accredited and qualified coach or sport official to a national program/league/institute level or higher, for example – youth national team coach, state or national institute coach, national league/championship official/coach.
Undergraduate eligibility
To be eligible to be considered for the scholarship, a candidate must be applying for an eligible undergraduate bachelor degree or Assured Pathway course. The following exclusions apply:
- Assured Pathway to Medicine
- Assured Pathway to Dental Medicine
Postgraduate eligibility
To be eligible to be considered for the scholarship, a candidate must be applying for an eligible postgraduate degree (by coursework or coursework and dissertation). The following exclusions apply:
- Juris Doctor (20820)
- Doctor of Medicine (91850)
- Doctor of Dental Medicine (91860)
- Doctor of Optometry (91590)
- UWA Micro-credentials
Combined Bachelor’s and Combined Bachelors & Master’s (CBM) eligibility
All Combined Bachelor’s and Combined Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are considered eligible.
Whilst most of these degrees are over 4 years (based on 8 semesters of full time study), the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce; and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Science; are over 5 years (based on 10 semesters of full time study) and as such, eligible students will receive up to $60,000* over 5 years (yearly eligible amounts based on WAM).

Send your Sport CV, outlining your recent achievements in high-performance sport and referees from your previous coaches or state organisations, to UWA Sport. Academic eligibility based on ATAR/WAM requirements will assessed separately as part of your application to study.
