Active Citizenship in Practice

The McCusker Centre for Citizenship offers structured, quality internships with not-for-profit, community and government organisations locally, regionally, and globally for those who want to become involved and active citizens. Students gain insight and experience in areas such as social justice, community development, environmental conservation, the provision of care, human rights, advocacy, community capacity building and activism. Internships involve 100 hours of work, and students' applied experience is supplemented with classes and assessments that contextualise and prompt critical reflection about civic engagement, delivering a broad and rich educational experience.

This course will be offered to any current UWA students or students of other Western Australian universities who are keen to make a difference by learning about active citizenship and applying this knowledge during a 100 hour internship. The micro-credential can be completed by both, undergraduate or postgraduate students and is ideally suited to students who cannot complete the equivalent unit as part of their degree. Students should have completed at least one semester of study at the time of application.
