How to apply

When you have found a job you would like to apply for, you can apply online via the Apply Now button in the job listing.

You will need to include the following information in your application:

  • Written application (cover letter and resume)
  • Names and day time contact details of two work related referees
  • Evidence of your eligibility to work in Australia if you are not an Australian citizen.

You are able to save and return to your online application at a later time if needed.

Once you have completed your application, submit it online before the deadline.

Writing your application

Your written application provides a summary of your education, qualifications, skills and experience relevant to the position you're applying for.

Your written application should include:

  • Cover letter stating the position you are applying for, that demonstrates how you meet the selection criteria. You don't need to provide a specific statement addressing each selection criterion, unless it is requested that you do so.
  • Resume (curriculum vitae) providing your personal details, qualifications and work history.

Selection process

The University has a set of guidelines for the advertising of professional staff vacancies and for the recruitment and selection of applicants.

A brief outline of the selection process:

1. A selection panel is appointed, usually consisting of three people (a mixture of male and female):

  • the supervisor or head of section
  • one person who knows the job well or occupies a similar position
  • another person, often from outside the work area.

2. The position description and selection criteria are reviewed, and updated if necessary.

3. The position is advertised through our website, LinkedIn, Seek, or other external sources, if applicable.

4. Written applications are received by Human Resources by a specified closing date. Acknowledgements are sent to all applicants by Human Resources.

5. The selection panel and Human Resources reviews all the applications and:

  • shortlists applicants who best meet the requirements of the position
  • interviews shortlisted applicants
  • administers additional work tests - if applicable; for example, word processing, and
  • contacts referees.

6. The selection panel makes its decision, prepares a report of recommendation, and contacts the preferred applicant to advise of the outcome of the selection process.

7. Unsuccessful interviewees are advised.

8. The successful applicant is appointed to the job.
