Governance and reporting
Sustainability committee
Sustainability at UWA is overseen by the Sustainability Committee, an advisory Committee to the Executive. Comprising of staff and student representatives from across the University, the Sustainability Committee serves as a forum to monitor sustainability targets and guide the University’s sustainability direction. The Committee also oversees the development and implementation of the UWA Sustainability Strategy, set to be released in 2025. This Strategy closely aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and takes a holistic approach in embedding sustainability into our education, research, community engagement and campus operations.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy
UWA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy addresses key areas such as carbon reporting, built forms, sustainable procurement, and modern slavery. The Policy reflects the University’s commitment to responsible governance and ethical practices.
Sustainability reporting
The University tracks and reports its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions (operational emissions) to track progress towards our goal of carbon neutral operations by 2025. We are also working toward neutrality for Scope 3 emissions, aiming to achieve this by 2040. Emissions data is published in UWA’s annual reports and on the Sustainability Campus Dashboard.
Our environmental sustainability performance is assessed against the goals set out in UWA’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy [PDF 3.3MB] with data on energy, water, waste, and nature available through the Sustainable Campus Dashboard.
The University reports broader sustainability performance across our teaching and research, planning and administration, operations and engagement through the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Ratings System (STARS).
In alignment with AASB Standards, UWA will report on climate-related risks and opportunities by 2026. Learn more about this commitment here (link to Climate).
The University is currently developing the UWA Sustainability Strategy 2030. The strategy will be closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles and will take a holistic approach focused on embedding sustainability across our education, research and campus operations to create a better future for our community.
