Disability, medical conditions and mental health

At UWA, we support people with disabilities and medical conditions to perform at their best and be involved in all aspects of university life.

Our students and staff can access support for ongoing, temporary and episodic conditions, and we are committed to ensuring our campus and services are accessible for everyone.

Policies

Our policies inform the provision of services to staff and students with disabilities:

Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2020-2025

UWA is committed to providing an environment of equitable opportunity and outcomes, appropriate access and support. The UWA Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) was developed as part of the University's overarching commitment to equity and diversity.

We aim to create a campus experience for people living with a disability, whether they are staff, students or visitors, that is similar to that of the University community as a whole, so that staff and students living with a disability enjoy success in the same measure as their peers.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework

The UWA Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework has been co-designed by students and staff to create an inclusive university experience that encourages a proactive, accessible, holistic and student-centred approach to mental health and wellbeing.

Support for staff

UWA’s Human Resources team supports the accessibility needs of staff – whether a health condition is visible or invisible, permanent or temporary, has minimal or substantial impact on a person’s abilities.

There is no obligation for anyone to disclose a medical condition. If you choose to disclose a medical condition, our Disability and Medical Conditions Policy ensures that reasonable adjustments will be put in place.

Visit the Staff Intranet for additional information on health and wellbeing services, mental health in the workplace and health and wellbeing training.

Support for students

If you have a physical or mental health condition, issue or disability that is affecting your studies, our UniAccess team can supports you to stay healthy during your studies and perform at your academic best, no matter whether your condition is ongoing, temporary or episodic.
