Laser safety course
This half-day course is for staff and students who are required to use high-powered research lasers.
For non staff and non students the payment of $150.00 can be made via the UWA payment portal.
It will provide users with an awareness of the specific hazards associated with high-powered laser usage within the University research environment. It is a requirement under the Radiation Safety Act 1975 that licensed users of laser equipment have attended an appropriate laser safety course and that their supervised users are appropriately trained.
On completion of the course, candidates will be eligible to apply for a laser licence through the Radiological Council.
Online module
An online LMS laser safety module is available to staff and students who need to start working with lasers before the next course. The online module does not replace this course.
Scope
You will:
- gain an understanding of the safe use of lasers in research
- be able to identify and assess risks in laser areas
- become aware of legislative requirements for the use of lasers
