Launching your journey at UWA!
Everything you need to get set up for your upcoming studies at UWA is found on the UniStart website. Follow all the steps and information given to ensure you are set up in the relevant UWA systems and across helpful tips and advice to help settle you into the university.
A helpful tip is to check out the askUWA FAQ online and search for a question you have related to getting set up with UWA. If you need any additional assistance, you can contact your allocated Student Advising Office.
Complete the following steps to become prepared prior to enrolling:
1: Activate UniID and check UWA Student email
You need to activate your UniID account to access a range of online systems and services, including your UWA email. This email is the official communication channel that the university uses to contact you with important updates and helpful information. It is beneficial to check this weekly to stay up to date. You can access your email using your eight-digit student number at the front of your email address as the username ([email protected]) and your UWA password.
2: Create a Unique Student Identifier (USI)
All students are required to obtain Unique Student Identifier (USI).Once you receive yours, submit it via studentConnect under 'Personal Details', then 'USI'.
3: Receive a Tax File Number (TFN)
If you don’t have a tax file number, you need to apply to the Australian Taxation Office directly. You'll still be able to enrol without a tax file number. TFN is typically received within 28 days after submission of a completed application and required identity documents.
Tip: If you are an international student, you cannot receive a TFN until you have arrived in Australia.
4: Explore the UWA Handbook
To help determine what units to study, your next step is to visit the UWA handbook. You can search per your course and/or major or specialisation.
5: Create a personalised study plan
There are sample study plans available in the handbook to help you create your own or you can download a sample study plan and checklist to help plan your choices. If you are studying for the first time, first degree (known as an undergraduate degree such as a Bachelor's), at UWA, you can download the example template under your first major listed in the handbook (this is known as your degree-specific major) and include electives along with potentially a second major or minor.
Create your undergraduate degree study plan
For postgraduate courses, example study plans are available listed under your specific course (and Specialisation).
Find your postgraduate degree study plan
If you need assistance with designing or reviewing your study plan, contact your assigned allocated Student Advising Office by emailing your draft study plan to askUWA. Please allow time for this to be reviewed by a Student Advisor.
