Travel insurance

A corporate travel insurance policy is in place with the insurer, Chubb. The policy provides cover for all UWA travellers on approved university business or study-related travel.

All travel must be approved in accordance with the appropriate University Delegated Authority via the University's travel management system Concur in line with the University's Travel Policy.

Summary of cover

The documents below provide a summary of the corporate travel insurance maintained by the University for staff and students outlining important information and the various levels of cover.

Private travel or leisure days

UWA travellers must arrange their own travel insurance for all private travel or leisure days. In order to obtain Post Departure (Insurance cover that starts when you are already overseas) private travel insurance, please visit the Cover-More Insurer website for more information.

The University is not in a position to recommend or verify the integrity of external and independently operated insurance facilities. If you wish to consider taking out policies with the above suggested company, you are obliged to exercise your own due diligence and undertake the necessary enquiries to ensure that their products will be sufficient for your unique, individual requirements.

Conditions and exclusions

Excess

This policy may be subject to a $300 excess for claims on electronic equipment only. All other claims have no excess applicable.

Age limits

The policy provides cover for authorised travellers under 90 years of age. Limited cover may be extended to authorised travellers who are over 90 years of age. If you are over 75 years of age, contact Aon at [email protected] before travelling to request insurance cover.

Duration

The maximum duration of any one trip covered by the policy is 365 days (for students only). Aon should be advised at [email protected] 10 days prior to departure of travel over 365 days.

Pre-existing medical conditions

  • travelling against medical advice or when you are unfit to do so
  • travelling to seek medical attention
  • travelling with a terminal condition which was diagnosed prior to departure
  • seeking continued treatment whilst travelling, including medication commenced prior to departure which you have been advised to continue taking.

Luggage, personal effects and travel documents

It is a condition of the policy that you will take all reasonable precautions for the safety and supervision of any luggage, personal effects, travel documents, money and credit cards.

Personal electronic devices include but are not limited to laptops, cameras and camera equipment, mobile phones, and tablet computers that are required to accompany you on board the aircraft or waterborne vessel as cabin baggage. There is no cover for these items where theft occurs whilst such equipment is unattended unless securely locked inside a building or securely locked out of sight inside a motor vehicle.

General claims

For baggage, money or other claims it is important to report the incident to the relevant authority e.g., police and/or airline, and obtain written verification from that authority as soon as possible. Upon returning to Australia, you will be required to complete a claim form attaching all relevant statements.

Ensure you submit all supporting documentation such as statements, receipts, valuations and accounts with a fully completed claim form to enable your claim to be processed quickly. An incomplete claim form could lead to delays in settlement.

The claim form below can be completed electronically and submitted to Chubb at A&[email protected] and copied to Aon at [email protected] within 30 days of completion of the journey or as soon as possible thereafter. Include UWA, your name and the policy number 05PP018027 in the email subject line. Please note that sections 1, & 11 are compulsory, and the other sections are to be filled in if they apply to your claim. If you are unsure, please fill out as much as you can, and the insurer will request additional information as and when required.
