Travel insurance
A corporate travel insurance policy is in place with the insurer, Chubb. The policy provides cover for all UWA travellers on approved university business or study-related travel.
All travel must be approved in accordance with the appropriate University Delegated Authority via the University's travel management system, FCM, in line with the University's Travel Policy.
Summary of cover
The documents below provide a summary of the corporate travel insurance maintained by the University for staff and students outlining important information and the various levels of cover.
Conditions and exclusions
Excess
This policy may be subject to a $300 excess for claims on electronic equipment only. All other claims have no excess applicable.
Age limits
The policy provides cover for authorised travellers under 90 years of age. Limited cover may be extended to authorised travellers who are over 90 years of age. If you are over 75 years of age, contact Aon at [email protected] before travelling to request insurance cover.
Duration
The maximum duration of any one trip covered by the policy is 365 days.
Aon should be advised 10 days prior to departure at [email protected] of travel exceeding 365 days.
Pre-existing medical conditions
The policy does not have a specific 'pre-existing medical conditions' exclusion. Instead, the policy has restrictions around health issues and will not respond for medical or medical evacuation expenses incurred if you are:
- travelling against medical advice or when you are unfit to do so
- travelling to seek medical attention
- travelling with a terminal condition which was diagnosed prior to departure
- seeking continued treatment whilst travelling, including medication commenced prior to departure which you have been advised to continue taking.
Luggage, personal effects and travel documents
It is a condition of the policy that you will take all reasonable precautions for the safety and supervision of any luggage, personal effects, travel documents, money and credit cards.
Personal electronic devices include but are not limited to laptops, cameras and camera equipment, mobile phones, and tablet computers that are required to accompany you on board the aircraft or waterborne vessel as cabin baggage. There is no cover for these items where theft occurs whilst such equipment is unattended unless securely locked inside a building or securely locked out of sight inside a motor vehicle.
Exclusions
Other exclusions include:
- engaging in air travel except as a passenger in any properly licensed aircraft
- any deliberately self-inflicted injury, including suicide or attempted suicide
- training for or participating in professional sports of any kind
- any criminal or intentional illegal act
Private travel or leisure days
UWA travellers are responsible for arranging their own travel insurance for any private travel or leisure days. If you require Post-Departure Cover (insurance that begins after you are already overseas), you can explore options through Cover-More or review the Chubb Travel Insurance details provided below.
The University is not in a position to recommend or verify the integrity of external and independently operated insurance facilities. If you wish to consider taking out policies with the above suggested companies, you are obliged to exercise your own due diligence and undertake the necessary enquiries to ensure that their products will be sufficient for your unique, individual requirements.
