1. Organise your visa

You need a visa before travelling to Australia. For a full-time course, you will need a student visa that will cover the duration of your course. Make sure you are familiar with your visa conditions and ensure your visa is always current. View our Student Visas page for more information about the conditions, including studying on campus and enrolling in full-time study.

Visit our Moving to Perth page for other important information on health cover, bringing your family, and working in Australia.

Important dates for Semester 2, 2025

It is expected that you arrive in time for Orientation Week (14-18 July 2025) so you can transition to life in Perth, get ready for your studies and become familiar with the UWA campus.

Saturday 26 July 2025 is the last day to add units to your enrolment. If your travel plans and visa are delayed and you expect to arrive after this date, defer your offer to the following semester to ensure your academic success. If you need help with this, email us via askUWA.

Note: Some courses have an earlier start date. For more information, visit UWA Important dates

2. Register for a pre-departure session

The International Student Support team will host several live pre-departure webinars to help you prepare for life at UWA prior to your arrival. You'll also be able to ask questions. We'll cover:

  • Organising your travels to Perth
  • Packing guide
  • Accommodation
  • Arrival advice
  • O-Week

Check in closer to Semester 2 for updated session dates.

3. Book your accommodation

Student accommodation is in demand, so at UWA we have an Accommodation Concierge to help you identify accommodation to meet your needs. If you choose to stay in one of our residential colleges, you must book this before arriving in Australia. You can view other accommodation options on the Study Perth Accommodation page.

As a condition of your student visa, you must notify UWA of your Australian address within seven days of arrival and inform us within seven days if your address changes during your studies. You can update your contact details on studentConnect.

Arriving in Perth

We recommend you arrive a few days before Orientation Week so you can recover from your flights, settle in, and explore the city.

It is important you take the time to plan out how you will get to your accommodation from Perth International Airport. Visit the Study Perth website for information on planning your arrival including important travel documents, airport transport options and more helpful tips.

If you are arriving late at night, you can travel by taxi, rideshare or book an airport transfer service, for example through Great Western Coach
Visit the Wotif website to explore short-term accommodation options.
