Property insurance
The Property policy provides protection for damage or loss to UWA-owned property. Note that staff or student personal belongings are not covered under this policy.
Exclusions
A number of standard exclusions apply, the most common being:
- wear, tear and gradual deterioration
- faulty or defective design, materials or workmanship
- contamination by radiation
- theft of property left unattended
- any loss from an unattended vehicle
Losses must also be attributed to an insurable event. There is sometimes a time limit within which our insurers must be made aware of a loss; it is therefore crucial to inform UWA's insurance broker Aon at [email protected] immediately once the loss is discovered and provide an approximate value of loss or damage.
Special conditions
Equipment taken off campus
If you are removing a piece of equipment from UWA premises, it must be documented and approved by a UWA school or area. Insurance for the transportation of equipment may be obtained under the University's Transit Insurance Policy.
Contact Aon at [email protected] for confirmation of cover and confirmation whether there may be any additional premium cost for transit insurance.
New equipment
To be covered by this insurance, any new items of equipment worth over $5000 must be recorded on the asset register held by Financial Services.
Borrowed or lent equipment
If a school takes delivery of a piece of expensive equipment that is technically not the University's property, but which it has a duty to insure, you must inform Aon at [email protected] prior to its arrival. Copies of any agreements should be forwarded to Aon for review.
Making a claim
- Complete a claim form and forward it to Aon at [email protected] for review as soon as possible.
- Written quotations must be obtained for the replacement or repair of the damaged items, along with the receipts from the original item, before the claim will be settled.

- Your claim will be assessed and any further information will be requested, if needed.
- If accepted, you will be advised via email and the amount forwarded to you via Internal Funds Transfer.
Excess
An internal deductible of $10,000 applies to all property claims and is payable by the University business area. The deductible payable by entities affiliated with the University is subject to the agreed arrangement. Additional excesses for losses in unalarmed and mitigated controlled environments and losses to Equipment in our Under the Water, and Remotely Piloted Aircraft do apply.
