Indigenous Nationals

A week-long multisport competition for Indigenous student athletes

Indigenous Nationals is an event created to provide the opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student athletes from universities across Australia to compete in an annual week-long multi-sport competition.

The competition aims to not only celebrate the rich sporting culture of Indigenous Australia, but to also acknowledge the heritage and history of the participating student-athletes.

The Maaliwah are the most successful university team to date, winning the competition seven time and being placed runner-up four times.

In 2025, Indigenous Nationals will be hosted by UWA on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar from 23-27 June.

Watch Dr. Richard Walley explain the story behind the 2025 event artwork below.
