Research Training Program

Australian and New Zealand citizens and permanent residents are exempt from paying a contribution toward the cost of their research courses if UWA provides them with a Research Training Program place. This exemption applies for up to four years full-time equivalent study for a doctorate by research and two years full-time equivalent study for a master's by research. The RTP is a performance-based funding scheme administered by the Federal Department of Education and Training.

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have—a) either:
(i) a Bachelor of Science (Honours) with first class or upper second-class honours in Sport Science, Exercise Science, or Exercise and Health, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; or
(ii) a relevant bachelor's degree, or equivalent as recognised by UWA, and at least three years of relevant documented professional experience; and
(b) secured a supervisor and research topic in the area of study

This course enables advanced study or research majoring in one of the sub-discipline areas within exercise science, with particular emphasis on movement science, biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor learning, pedagogy, health and sport psychology.

About the course

The Master of Exercise Science (thesis and coursework) will expose you to advanced level units within the various sub-disciplines that are informed by the latest research developments and contemporary professional practice. As part of this learning, students will acquire knowledge of the process and conduct of research in the biological and behavioural sciences as this applies to the field of Exercise Science.
