Further Study

Upon successfully completing your course, you can choose to progress to the master's degree in Translation Studies. Depending on your circumstances, this may be subject to you achieving a course weighted average mark of 65 per cent. If you do enrol in the Master of Translation Studies, you will receive (subject to conditions) full credit for units completed in your graduate diploma.

For Full-Fee Paying places, students are charged an annual course fee, charged per credit point at a rate dependent on the course in which the student is enrolled. Annual course fees are calculated based on a standard annual study load of 48 credit points (1.0 EFTSL).

English competency

English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA and you will need to meet the English language requirements of the University to be eligible for a place.

Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.

Course details

This course equips you with advanced knowledge about translation theory and practice. The course develops your skills in translating between English and your chosen language, with specialisations including Chinese, French, German and Italian.

About the course

This course provides students with a sound understanding of traditional and contemporary translation theory and practice, and exposes students to advanced translation methodologies such as computer-aided translation localisation. It also equips students with an essential understanding and working knowledge of the ethical standards expected of translation professionals.

The Graduate Diploma in Translation Studies at UWA has been endorsed by NAATI, the National Accreditation Authority of Translators and Interpreters. From 2018 students will be able to sit external NAATI certification tests upon the successful completion of their degree.
