Environmental Tracers and Isotopes in Groundwater Systems GEOSM508

Groundwater systems are a vital resource for people and the environment, but their subsurface nature makes them difficult to characterize. Environmental tracers and isotopes are important tools to help us understand this hidden groundwater world. This micro-credential is suitable for professionals with postgraduate-level scientific literacy and numeracy skills who are interested in developing their understanding of environmental tracers and isotopes as tools for characterizing groundwater systems. Topics covered include an introduction to environmental tracers and stable isotopes in hydrogeology, as well as applied tracers, noble gasses, heat as a tracer, and groundwater age indicators.
Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, you'll receive:

  • Three PD Points
  • A Certificate of Achievement
  • A UWA Plus Professional Development Transcript, listing all successfully completed micro-credentials

Why study this course?

Learn about environmental tracers and isotopes as tools for characterising groundwater systems. Build your skills in analysis and interpretation of environmental tracer and isotopic data to understand groundwater systems.

Who should study this course?

This micro-credential is suitable for professionals working in groundwater-related technical roles and want to deepen their understanding how to use environmental tracers and isotopes to understand groundwater systems.

Recommended prior study

Completion of an undergraduate degree in natural sciences and an understanding of the properties and processes of groundwater systems. Postgraduate-level numeracy skills including unit conversions and rearranging of equations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel for data analysis and data plotting and PowerPoint for drawing simple schematics.

What's next after this course?

This micro-credential is complemented by GEOSM505. Completing both of these micro-credentials can be used as academic credit towards GEOS5511 upon enrolment in the Master of Hydrogeology at UWA.

Enrol in a Master of Hydrogeology.
