ATAR Physics for Teachers: Year 12 Syllabus [PHYSM122]

This micro-credential is part of a programme to up-skill teachers to teach ATAR Physics. In this micro-credential participants will study the physics covered in the new year-12 Physics ATAR syllabus, focusing on Science Understanding.

 This micro-credential is suitable for science teachers who either:

(a) have competence with the year-11 ATAR Physics syllabus and wish to extend their knowledge to include the year-12 syllabus; or

(b) have recently started teaching year-12 ATAR Physics and wish to improve their understanding of the subject, including the new syllabus.

Topics covered include:

(1) ATAR Physics Unit 3: Gravity & Relativity; and

(2) ATAR Physics Unit 4: Quantum Physics, & Cosmology.

Who should study this course

This micro-credential is part of a programme to up-skill science teachers to teach ATAR Physics. It is suitable for science teachers who have either:
(a) have competence with the year-11 ATAR Physics syllabus and wish to extend their knowledge to include the year-12 syllabus; or

(b) have recently started teaching year-12 ATAR Physics and wish to improve their understanding of the subject, including the new syllabus.

For Department of Education teachers, please register via LEAP.

All other teachers please register below.

It is strongly recommended that prior to taking this micro-credential, participants should either:

(a) have completed PHYSM121 ATAR Physics for Teachers: Year-11 Syllabus; or

(b) have existing competency at teaching year-11 ATAR Physics.

It is also strongly recommended that participants should have successfully completed ATAR Mathematics Methods or equivalent at some time in the past.

How does it work?

Participants will be guided through material via a mix of lectures, demonstrations and problem-solving practice sessions, with plenty of opportunities for individual help. The course will be assessed via a combination of online quizzes, assignments and a presentation, with some assessment tasks to be completed out of class.

Career outcomes
Participant teachers can commence teaching the theory in the Year-12 Physics ATAR syllabus.
