Completing a major solely in Integrated Design (as opposed as part of an Architecture/Integrated Design majors combination), provides a range of employment opportunities including work as a designer, draftsperson, modeller/animator or urban designer (with further study). You could work in design consultancies, architectural and urban design practice, illustration and 3D modelling studios, building or manufacturing companies, computer game development, set design/animation or special effects studios.

Domestic Pathways

  • Domestic Assured Pathway/School Leaver Entry: Applications are lodged via TISC. Refer to TISC Online for current course codes and application deadlines. 
  • Domestic Graduate Entry: Applications are lodged via GEMSAS, which open and close in accordance with the GEMSAS timeline. All domestic applicants must submit a valid GAMSAT score by the application closing date.

About the course

A major in Integrated Design equips you with the capacity to apply your imagination to address contemporary issues in an independent and creative way. Design is a speculative discipline, meaning the use of imagination is central to the way different technologies and methods are used to create drawings, models and prototypes. As part of the creative process, you will undertake collaborative work on multidisciplinary projects with a variety of individuals. Practical studies are supported by investigations into design communication and sustainable design, as well as considerations of relevant historical and ethical issues relating to design. You'll benefit from UWA’s investments in cutting-edge model-making and prototyping technologies including laser cutters, 'maker-bots', a well-equipped workshop and a 3D model maker.

In addition to the core units outlined for this major, students undertaking Integrated Design as a degree-specific major are strongly encouraged to enhance their knowledge and expertise by taking units in the areas of Urban Design, Landscape Architecture and Fine Arts. If not already taking a second major, there are a number of highly desirable design electives. More advice can be sought from the Design and Education Student Office.
