Community partner

West Australian Symphony Orchestra

UWA is proud to partner with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) to bring together the highest quality music education with the  State’s most talented and successful musicians.

WASO is Western Australia’s pre-eminent performing arts organisation that thrives on the enthusiasm, passion and support of the entire community. WASO harnesses this energy to create events and programs across the state to stimulate learning and participation in a vibrant cultural life with the power to touch souls and enrich lives through music.

About the partnership

Through this partnership, students are given access to real-life industry experience and experts, providing workplace integrated learning at the highest level. Musicians from the West Australian Symphony Orchestra work closely with both undergraduate and postgraduate students to deliver one-on-one lessons, weekly workshops, masterclasses and concert practice sessions.

The Master of Music (Orchestral Performance) nurtures the next generation of young performers by offering participants mentoring opportunities by some of Australia’s finest musicians as well as the opportunity to perform in public concerts with the Orchestra. Equipping students with the skills and ongoing training required for a professional music career, this course blends research and professional performance experience and prides itself on being the only master’s course of its kind offered in Australia.

The partnership between UWA Conservatorium of Music and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra is a really important one. At WASO we’re really committed to education and training and to nurturing and developing the next generation of young performers and of course UWA is an outstanding provider of education.
