NAIDOC Week at the UWA Library!

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to learn about First Nations cultures and histories, and to celebrate the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

You can join in the festivities by checking out the following activities and resources:*

  • Learn from the stories of those who came before you by reading the works of Indigenous authors from the UWA Library collection. A dedicated display of borrowable books will be available next to the Reid Library Information Desk from the 5th to the 18th of July.
  • Watch films and docos by or about Indigenous Australians via the Library's Kanopy subscription. Access Kanopy through OneSearch. Search ‘Aboriginal Australians’ or ‘Indigenous’ to find a range of titles such as Ten Canoes, In My Blood it Runs and Connection to Country.
  • Take our NAIDOC Week Quiz to learn more about First Nations history and culture.
  • Find scholarly resources available at the UWA Library about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, and cultures through OneSearch. See the Library's Indigenous Information Sources guide to help you get started.

*Please be aware that these resources may contain images, voices, or names of persons now deceased. Information may be culturally sensitive for some individuals and communities.

Reid Library Ground Floor - Open

The ground floor of the Reid Library is now open, please check our opening hours for details.

There may be periods of disruption and noise as the refurbishment continues on the other levels. Levels 1 - 3 remain closed.

The ground floor of Reid Library is a collaborative zone, this means the space is designed for group work and collaboration.
You will have access to collaborative study zones, bookable booth spaces, PCs and library services from the information desk.

High Demand and the Writing and Referencing drop-in remains available at the Barry J. Marshall Library during semester.
The TechDesk drop-in service will operate on the ground floor of Barry J Marshall Library 9am-4pm Monday-Friday until further notice.

Reid Library Refurbishment

Reid Library is being refurbished and levels 1-3 are currently closed. Once completed, the Level 1 refurbishment will accommodate a mix of spaces and facilities catering to a range of student study preferences and requirements, with an increase in the number of student study seats. The project is due for completion in Q4, 2024. Keep an eye on this webpage for updates.

Improvements and innovation

The University Library is focused on continual improvement and operational excellence, through measuring what we do, benchmarking against others and reporting to the UWA community.

We undertake regular surveys and proactively listen and respond to student and staff feedback.  The next Library Survey will be conducted in H1 2025.

You can contact us to provide feedback about your experience using the University Library.

Thank You - Library Survey 2022

Nearly 2,000 students completed our survey and we want to thank everyone who gave their valuable time to help us understand how to make our library services even better for you.

We’d also like to note that one of the consistent messages to come out of the survey was how satisfied you are with our library staff (shucks). Feedback like this is wonderful for our dedicated teams and we appreciate your kind words.

In the survey, you identified some key areas for improvement to make your UWA library experience a more productive and enjoyable experience for you. We wanted to name the areas that we’ll be working on, based on your feedback, and continue to update you as we make improvements. As always, we welcome your ongoing feedback all year round as first and foremost, our libraries are community spaces and we want to work with you to make them as fantastic as they can be.

Key areas for improvement:

  • Faster log in speeds and more reliable wifi
  • More power points and charging stations
  • Greater respect for silent zones
  • Cleaner spaces
  • Extra seating for both individuals and groups
  • More specific filtering and exporting options on OneSearch
  • Longer opening hours
  • Updated signage on how to print and how to navigate the libraries
  • Easier access to Unit Readings
  • Simplified website design
  • More face to face and online sessions on introductory workshops

As we action your requested improvements, we’ll let you know on UWA Students Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and in your monthly newsletter, 360 Degrees, which you can find in your student email.

See the action plan here.
