Meet the team
We have a diverse team of highly qualified permanent and visiting podiatrists and surgeons at the UWA Podiatry clinic.
Dr Hugo has specialist skills as a Podiatric Surgeon and has been consulting in Perth for many years. He is Head of Podiatric Medicine & Surgery at UWA and Vice President of the Australian Association of Podiatric Surgeons.

Dr.Crabb is a passionate lecturer and podiatrist with a special interest in geriatric care, diabetes education, paediatrics, disabilities and chronic / sports injury management. She also has research interests in podiatric medicine education, primary and geriatric care. Catherine offers a variety of treatments for podiatric complaints and aims to build comprehensive short and long-term treatment plans to optimise function and reduce pain for all her patients.

Dr Schoen is a passionate lecturer and podiatrist with specialist knowledge in Rural Health and High Risk Foot. Dr Schoen has worked in rural podiatry care in the Wheatbelt for 20 years, in High Risk Foot at Royal Perth Hospital and in private practice. She is the winner of the 2021 Rural Health West Excellence Awards for the Metropolitan-based Bush Champion. Dr Schoen combined her passions of Rural Health and High Risk Foot for her PhD to make a difference for Western Australian communities and the healthcare professionals dedicated to rural health.

Dr Silvester has a special interest in musculoskeletal conditions, arthritis and chronic pain presentations. She has experience working in public and private settings.
Dr Keating graduated Podiatry with honours from the Queensland University of technology in 2000, Masters of Podiatry in 2009 and Endorsed Medicines Prescriber in 2011. Matthew has a special interest in elite sports podiatry, complex podiatry cases and injection therapies for chronic problems. He also has a keen interest in children’s foot health needs. With nearly 20 years of professional practice experience, Matthew brings many years of clinical experience to the team. He is a Member of Sports Medicine Australia, Australian Academy of Sports Member, and a past affiliate Member of the Australian College of Podiatric Surgeons.

Dr Christian Pocklington is Western Australian trained surgeon who has completed training as a specialist podiatric surgeon. A graduate of the University of Western Australia, Doctor Pocklington completed a Bachelor of Podiatric Medicine degree followed by a Doctorate of Clinical Podiatry. He has keen interests in sports podiatry and podiatric surgery. He currently holds an academic position as a senior lecturer at the University of Western Australia and is actively involved in training the next generation of podiatric surgeons.

Dr Tan graduated from the La Trobe University undergraduate podiatry program in 2011 with honours and completed her PhD in 2020. Since graduating, Jade’s experience spans private practice with a focus on biomechanical patients, teaching and curriculum development across multiple allied health courses, and conducting both government and privately funded musculoskeletal research projects both interstate and overseas.

Dr Jamie Weaver is a US trained and Board Certified Podiatric Surgeon, who for the last 12 years has practiced Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at the Joint Replacement Institute (Orthopaedic Centre) in Naples, Florida where she was the Head of Foot and Ankle Surgery. She was also a founding surgeon with Seaside Surgery Center in Naples, Florida and served as CEO from 2017 – 2018.

Dr Joanne Ang is a specialist podiatric surgeon who graduated from the University of Western Australia’s Doctor of Podiatric Surgery program. She is currently a senior lecturer with the UWA Podiatric Medicine & Surgery discipline, and also has experience working in the private setting in both metropolitan and rural areas.

Helen Jackson is a front-line staff member at the UWA Podiatry Clinic and assists with all day-to-day running of the clinic including new patient enquiries. For all enquiries relating to patient referrals or continued treatments, please feel free to email Helen at [email protected].
Cert IV in Business Administration
Rhoda completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and have worked in Human Resources before coming to Australia. She previously managed a Specialist’s practice in Perth before coming on board to UWA Podiatry Clinic. Rhoda will be assisting at clinic reception and will be responsible for all surgical coordination, liaising with surgeons, patients, anaesthetists, and the hospitals.

Isabel is responsible for all cleaning and sterilising of reusable medical instruments and training our postgraduate students in the basics of sterilisation. In addition to this, she manages the purchasing of medical and surgical consumables as well as stock control, liaising and negotiating with suppliers and ensuring all equipment is maintained to a high standard.
Certificate III in Sterilisation Services
Dr Gilly Smith has a mix of clinical nursing, university academia, and health management experience over the last 30 years She provides leadership to the clinic staff, manages the clinics, as well as lecturing and supervising higher degrees. Her clinical currency in nursing is maintained through her work in anaesthetics and clinical governance. Gilly holds qualifications in critical care nursing, psychology and business administration.

We have staff who specialise in areas of Diabetic Foot, Biomechanics, Surgery, Sports Medicine, Paediatrics, and Nail Surgery.
Student Practice
The clinic is practitioner led with student involvement. Students gain valuable experience and learn various techniques during their time in the UWA Podiatry Clinic.
Administrative Support
The UWA Podiatry Clinic and Podiatric Surgery Hospital are supported by UWA School Operations staff. Some are specialised as clinic receptionists. Others provide general administrative support for the office and for the postgraduate courses offered by the School of Allied Health.
