The Bendat Family Foundation has donated funds to The University of Western Australia ('the University') to establish a fund to provide scholarships to encourage and assist high-achieving Indigenous Australian students, who are experiencing financial hardship, to pursue a Juris Doctor at the University.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, an applicant must be—
(a) a domestic student;1
(b) an Australian Indigenous person;2
(c) experiencing financial hardship;3
(d) enrolled, or eligible to enrol—
(i) full-time unless the selection body is satisfied that there are exceptional circumstances4 which preclude full-time enrolment and
(ii) eligible to enrol or currently enrolled in the Juris Doctor (20820) degree course.
1 An Australian citizen or permanent resident or holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa or a New Zealand citizen.
2 An Australian Indigenous person is a person who:
• is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent;
• identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
• is accepted as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in the community in which he or she lives or has lived.
3 Financial hardship may be demonstrated by an applicant being in receipt of a means-tested Commonwealth income support payment (such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, Abstudy, etc.) or by submitting a statement of financial hardship. See http://www.scholarships.uwa.edu.au/students/undergrad/financial
