“Compostable Products: Ending Single Use Plastic “

Julia Kay, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Great Wrap 

Australians use around 70 billion pieces of soft plastics including food wrappers each year. One million tonnes of Australia’s annual plastic consumption is single-use plastic. Our use of plastic is increasing and will double across the world by 2040. By 2050, it is estimated that plastic in our oceans will outweigh fish.

In the 2022 Contemporary Issues in PRME Annual Lecture, Co-Founder Julia Kay will tell the story behind the invention of Great Wrap. Great Wrap performs the same as conventional plastic but will break down in 180 days.  As a product that is 100% compostable, Great Wrap will add organic matter to compost and leave no microplastics behind. Julia will talk about the motivation and innovation that has led to Great Wrap being recognised as a product that is needed now to safeguard our future.

Now living in Melbourne, Julia Kay is an alumnus from the School of Architecture at the University of Western Australia. After graduation, Julia worked as an architectural designer before co-founding Great Wrap. Julia is the Victorian Entrepreneur of the Year.
