As a European language graduate, you're well qualified for career opportunities in the diplomatic services, teaching and training, interpreting and translating, as well as positions in travel, hospitality, publishing, theatre, commerce, manufacturing, law and international relations. Knowledge of a foreign language is particularly valuable for opportunities in international banking, journalism and communications, medical areas, music and the arts. Domestic Student Fees
Eligible Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) students can use the HECS-HELP loan program to pay their tuition fees. For Full-Fee Paying (FFP) places, students are charged an annual course fee.

English competency
English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA and you will need to meet the English language requirements of the University to be eligible for a place.
Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.

Whatever plans you have for the future, studying German will increase your options. This major caters for students at all levels, from absolute beginners to native speakers. It offers a wide perspective as you will explore not only centuries of German history and culture, but also contemporary film and media, as well as Germany’s profound impact on the sciences, music and philosophy, both in Europe and around the world.

Course Structure
This major is available in three streams, catering from beginner to intermediate to advanced speakers. It is possible to combine German Studies with a second major from within Arts, Biomedical Science, Commerce or Science.

- read, write, listen and speak in German
- interact confidently and successfully in situations involving German cultural conventions
- interpret German language texts – written, audio, visual – in the light of German culture and society
- move with accuracy and skill between the English and German languages and cultures
- apply communication, problem-solving, teamwork and interpersonal skills
Translator
To become a translator, you will complete five years of study.
