If you’re keen to get into the business world and are considering a Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Commerce, you might be surprised at the variety of majors on offer.
From business law to entrepreneurship, here’s how to decide which major might be right for you.
If you're interested in starting a business or launching a startup
For creative problem-solvers who want to be their own boss and start something new in the business world, the Enterprise and Innovation major in the Bachelor of Business is where it’s at. You’ll learn about the entrepreneurial process from concept to current developments in the field, and discover product development, innovation management and how small businesses create and maintain a competitive advantage in the market.
If you're interested in specialist career opportunities
For those who know they’d like to pursue career opportunities as an accountant, financial adviser, auditor, marketer and so forth*, choosing a first major in your interest area is recommended:
- Accounting
- Business Analytics
- Business Economics
- Business Law
- Finance
- Human Resource Management
- Management
- Marketing
You can also choose two majors from within the same degree, if you like. Our most popular combinations are:
- Accounting + Finance
- Finance + Economics
- Management + Marketing
You can then continue with postgrad study for accreditation in your field. For instance, future accountants* will want to consider the Graduate Diploma in Commerce (Chartered Accounting), future economists* may want to pursue the Bachelor of Economics and Master of Economics accelerated pathway, future business lawyers* should consider the Juris Doctor, and future taxation lawyers* can continue to a Master of Taxation Law.
If you want a broad business education
Not entirely keen to commit to a specialisation and want to leave potential career changes as an option? The Bachelor of Business’ generalist majors – Business Management, Enterprise and Innovation, and Global Business – will prepare you for opportunities within areas such as management consultancy, small business, product development, new venture creation and marketing research consultancy, so you can pivot whenever you need.
If you want to do a bit of everything
Whether you choose a Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Commerce, UWA allows you to take a second major from any other degree. That’s any other degree. Here are some interesting combinations:
- Bachelor of Commerce: Marketing + Communication and Media Studies
- Bachelor of Commerce: Business Law + Law and Society
- Bachelor of Commerce: Accounting + Data Science
- Bachelor of Business: Business Management + Management
- Bachelor of Business: Enterprise and Innovation + Music General Studies
- Bachelor of Business: Global Business + Indonesian Studies

In essence, you can tailor your degree to your goals by completing two majors within three years.
