Pioneering award-winning research into Agricultural Engineering

Strong links between agriculture and engineering are important for Australia's future in terms of food security, rehabilitation, sustainability and economic prosperityDr Andrew Guzzomi
Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences

Agricultural engineering activities within the Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences focus on devising novel engineering solutions to challenging and relevant agricultural problems.

Major projects include the research and development of:

  • Native seed flash flaming technology in collaboration with Kings Parks Science that enables mechanised seeding and significantly reduces costs and is changing how degraded lands are restored using native seeds
  • A mechanical targeted tillage device in collaboration with the University of Sydney for weed removal in broad-acre cropping to help overcome reliance on herbicides and in response to grower concern about the difficulties associated with summer weed control.
