Bachelor of Commerce student Kyle Lee represented the Australian Dolphins in the Open Water team at the 21st edition of the World Aquatics Championships held in Doha, Qatar from 2 – 18 February.
The emerging talent has continued to improve his results in the lead up to the 2024 World Aquatics Championships. Kyle Lee propelled his career by capturing two titles at the 2023 Australian Open Water Championships and capturing the 5km title at the 2023 World Aquatic Championships.
Kyle Lee delivered an incredible performance in the 10km course in Doha, completing the race in a time of 1:48:31.20 to finish ninth. With this top ten finish, Kyle secured his selection as one of the four Australian athletes set to contest the 10km Open Water swim at Paris 2024. During the race, Kyle held his position in the lead group and worked his way through the field, executing his race to perfection.
The 21-year-old has been training hard to secure his Olympic debut after missing out on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Kyle Lee capped off his successful solo competition with a historic ending to the World Championships in Doha. The two-time UWA Sports Star of the Year finalist finished the leg of the Mixed 4x1500m relay with a dramatic victory, surging from behind to snatch a fingertip victory.
This was also a historic moment for the Australian Open Water team, with the nation qualifying for all four quota spots in the Paris Olympics.
