Six researchers from the Centre for Optimisation of Medicines at The University of Western Australia’s School of Allied Health have been identified by their peers as leading the advancement of pharmacy practice in Australia.
The Australian Journal of Pharmacy Advanced Practice Pioneers were chosen across a variety of areas of practice and included nominations for people at different stages of their career.
Research assistant and PhD candidate Amanda Quek was nominated for her work on deprescribing.

Ms Quek has published a systematic review and is now writing evidence-based clinical practice guidelines on deprescribing with the support of a multidisciplinary team.
Dr Kenneth Lee, Deputy Director of the Centre for Optimisation of Medicines within the School of Allied Health, was recognised for his work integrating research, teaching and practice in health services.
Dr Lee’s work to improve pharmacists' service delivery is supported by a team of clinicians and researchers within the national research group, COHERENT — a group he co-founded and co-leads.
Adjunct senior lecturer Deborah Hawthorne was nominated for her work on community service announcements and advancing consultant pharmacy.
She is an early champion for pharmacists in general practice and creator of a social media platform to support advanced practice pharmacists.
Atinuke Abrahams, also known as Tinu, is a casual teaching staff member who was recognised for her work in Aboriginal health.
Ms Abrahams has worked for 10 years in Aboriginal medical practice to advance pharmacists’ provision of care for First Nations peoples.
Nominee Shaylee Mills has written the Optometry Australia guidelines on quality use of medicines, a UWA-led project.
The research assistant is shaping the future of rural healthcare by working to empower early career pharmacists in Australia.
Nominee Rhiannon Price is working on a UWA-led project to write the white paper for the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia on pharmacy in aged care.
The UWA research assistant is a general practitioner pharmacist for the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, senior pharmacist at King Edward Memorial Hospital and works in an Aboriginal Medical Centre.
