Name: Rebecca Harris
Achievement: Rebecca Harris received the Excellence and Leadership in Tertiary Studies Award from the WA branch of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders. The award is made available each year to the most outstanding postgraduate student in Education Leadership studies at a WA university. The Australian Council for Educational Leaders is a not-for-profit company that supports the development of educational leadership capabilities across Australia through conferences and workshops, leadership programs, in-house publications, online resources, and a bookshop.
Name: Emma Paterson
Achievement: Emma Paterson, from UWA's School of Physic, Mathematics and Computing, was recognised with the Women in Technology WA Outstanding Youth Role Model award. Emma is a PhD student at the Quantum Technologies and Dark Matter Research at UWA. Her work focuses on detecting ultra-light dark matter and separating chiral molecules in bulk. Women in Technology WA is the leading advocate for diversity, inclusion, and equity for women in technology in Western Australia.
Name: Pat Dudgeon
Achievement: Leading Indigenous psychologist Professor Pat Dudgeon from the UWA School of Indigenous Studies was among 41 distinguished humanities scholars from across Australia elected to Fellowship of the Australian Academy to the Humanities. President of the Academy Professor Stephen Garton said each of our Fellows are working at the forefront of issues of national and international importance and exemplify why ethical, historical, creative and cultural knowledge and expertise is critical to better decision making for a resilient society.
Name: Ritika Kar Bahal and Mark Nicol
Achievement: Professor Mark Nicol and research fellow Ritika Kar Bahal, from UWA’s School of Biomedical Sciences, are Nature Awards Microbiome Accelerator Winners. Their research explores the role of the early life microbiome in respiratory illnesses. The Microbiome Accelerator is an innovative partnership with Seed Health, designed to support researchers who want to use a discovery to make a positive impact on human health outcomes. The awards are designed to prepare researchers for the whole of the translation process: the program offers the tools, training/mentorship, and connections to plan the translation of groundbreaking research into clinical reality.
Name: Sven Ouzman
Achievement: Living Water Heritage – River, Land and Sea Country of the West was the winner of the Interpretation Project — Professor David Dolan Award at the 2024 Western Australian Heritage Awards. Dr Sven Ouzman, from UWA's School of Social Sciences and Centre for Rock Art Research + Management, was the academic lead on the project. The award is given to a project that improves and enriches a heritage experience by helping visitors to develop a strong sense of understanding and appreciation of a place. The Living Water Heritage project uses a First Nations-led approach to explore the heritage values of Martuwarra (Fitzroy River) and its people in the West Kimberley through an online exhibition.
