He's been named one of TIME Magazine’s most influential people of 2023 but how has Anthony Albanese performed as Prime Minister in the first 12 months of leadership?
His administration has faced key domestic challenges in tackling inflation, redirecting resources towards childcare and aged care, establishing new approaches to combatting corruption and integrity, resetting the goals of higher education and, more prominently, pursuing the national referendum on The Voice to Parliament.
Meanwhile, Australia’s foreign policy and regional engagement has shifted both in tone and substance, with significant and very public engagement in the Pacific and a hoped-for reset in relations with China.
Breakfast by the Bay: The Albanese Scorecard: How has the Federal Government performed one year on? will feature a panel of key MPs, academics and legal professionals who will discuss the performance scorecard of the Federal Government, one year on from its election to office.

Presented by The University Club of Western Australia and The UWA Public Policy Institute, the event will be held on Wednesday 17 May from 7am to 9am at The University Club, located on the UWA campus in Crawley.
Panellists include Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister the Hon. Patrick Gorman and Independent Federal Member for Curtin Kate Chaney. UWA Professor of Economics and Business School Dean, Peter Robertson, and First Nations leader and legal and business social commentator Emma Garlett will also join the panel, which will be moderated by Director of UWA Public Policy Institute Professor Shamit Saggar.
“Although, a year on, Australia’s Government appears to have hit the ground running, it is not obvious that it has been properly tested in office,” Professor Saggar said.
“The radar on the economy, energy transition, foreign affairs and social policy has so far not turned red, with ministers carefully straddling competing pressures, but it will at some point, and this will put Albanese and his team under the spotlight.”
Tickets are $60 for University Club members, $70 for non-members and $650 for a table of 10 and can be purchased online or by calling The University Club on 08 6488 8770. Ticket price includes a two-course breakfast and panel discussion. Full details are available online here.
