The regular rounds of the 2023 UBL season are coming to an end with UWA Maali taking on RMIT University Redbacks in the last home game of the season.

UWA Maali are ready to fly into the final two games of the regular rounds of the UBL season and have produced an exciting brand of basketball in the later half of the season. In its third instalment, the UBL competition has vastly changed with increased levels of intensity and competitiveness.

RMIT University will look to upset the winning streak of the UWA Maali teams and put a halt on the confidence that both teams are displaying in the back end of the competition. UWA Maali are challenging themselves to remain competitive to solidify final ladder positions ahead of finals.

"Having home games under our belt has helped build confidence, playing in our state, on our local courts with our crowd has been the greatest weapon. We've just worked harder and as a collective, we've lifted the work rate."

Jackson Mews, UWA Maali Men's Head Coach

UWA Maali men will look to implement a strong attacking game as the team focused heavily on strategy and attacking plays at training ahead of the clash against the Redbacks.

The UWA Maali women are building momentum at a pivotal part of the season after securing back-to-back wins against Adelaide University and Federation University.

"I'm proud of the girls coming together despite injuries to our main leaders in the group. We’ve really unlocked our potential and played with freedom. It’s been encouraging to see the improvement over the course of the season."

Matthew Mercer, UWA Maali Women's Head Coach

After a solid training session, the UWA Maali women are wanting to continue their strong defensive presence on court and combat the attacking nature of RMIT Redbacks in the Round 7 clash. A win against the RMIT Redbacks will bolster the women’s chances of securing a finals spot for the first time.
