Eight of Western Australia’s standout school leavers have received prestigious scholarships to study at The University of Western Australia.

"And again this year we have eight exceptional young people who will use their skills, abilities and commitment to lead positive change."

UWA Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor David Sadler

The UWA Fogarty Foundation Scholarships provide financial support to the students throughout university and help them fulfil their education and career aspirations.  They cover undergraduate study, and, in some cases, postgraduate study.

Degrees in Engineering, Biomedical Science and Philosophy will be the focus for the majority of these students.

Jessica Doan was awarded the UWA Fogarty Beazley Medallist Scholarship and has already begun studying Bachelor of Biomedical Science with an Assured Pathway to Doctor of Medicine, following in the footsteps of her elder brother and sister. The Beazley Medal is awarded by WA Certificate of Education for the highest examination marks across five ATAR courses in Year 12.

“Last year was an extraordinary year,” Jessica, 18, from Bedford, said. “I’m excited now to have started at UWA and I am so grateful to have been offered the UWA Fogarty Beazley Medallist Scholarship.  I feel extremely proud and privileged to be a part of the inspiring Fogarty community and look forward to making a positive impact on society.”

UWA Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor David Sadler said since being established in 2004 the UWA Fogarty Scholarship Program had educated and supported 176 young people who will make a significant contribution to WA.

“And again this year we have eight exceptional young people who will use their skills, abilities and commitment to lead positive change in our community, state and nation, now and in the future,” Professor Sadler said.
