UWA Maali Sevens score big with mass selection in the 2023 Western Force Womens squad

Ten players in the UWA Maali 7s squad for the Uni Women's Sevens competition have been selected in the 2023 Western Force Women's squad.

The University Women's Sevens series is a tournament for senior female rugby sevens players representing universities from around Australia. With the support of Rugby Australia, the 2022 season consisted of three tournaments hosted in Adelaide, Newcastle and Canberra throughout October. The UWA Maali 7s squad produced quality performances that resulted in the team securing bronze overall in the competition. The success continued to sprout for the UWA Maali Sevens players, with four players selected in the University Women's Sevens Rising Stars team that competed in the Queensland State Sevens championships in November 2022.


The buzz surrounding the UWA Maali 7s players continues with ten players selected into the Super W league representing the Western Force. The Super W is the leading women's rugby union league in Australia . The relatively new league looks to grow female rugby in Australia and push the woman's game to the elite level. The Super W has been integral to enhancing the pathway to the Wallaroos to create a stronger national team with the aim of making the top 5 in the World Rugby rankings.

The Western Force 30-woman squad features a combination of experienced and young players with a heavy emphasis on local WA talent. The selection marks a pivotal momentum for players as the Westeen Force womens program enters a new era of elite professionalism under the tutelage of Matt Hodgson as Head Coach. The exciting prospects will begin there campaign with the first Super W preseason match on 25 February 2023 at HBF Park.
