The UWA Sports - Sports Excellence Scholarship has been awarded to Ben Hemmi and Jacqueline Swick.

The prestigious scholarship provides up to $15,000 of financial assistance aimed to assist and encourage high performing student athletes to pursue an undergraduate qualification at the University and realise their dual career focus.

One scholarship recipient, Ben Hemmi, is currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and represented Australia in the 2022 Floorball World Cup in Switzerland.

"Floorball, an emerging sport, is currently self-funded and winning this scholarship relieves time and financial pressures. I get to concentrate purely on my university studies and excel in my sport."

Jacqueline Swick, 2022 WAIS Young Athlete of the Year, is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce at UWA after a successful sporting year winning gold and a bronze medal at the 2022 World Cup 2 in Poznan, Poland for the Coxed Eight rowing event.

I am incredibly grateful to receive the Sport Excellence Scholarship. The scholarship extends beyond financial support. The community within the Student Athlete Development Program and at UWA Sport, helps student athletes balance training and study. It's truly inspired myself to achieve my dreams in the boat and classroom so I can become the best version of myself in every aspect

Jaqueline Swick, Student Athlete at UWA
