It was a week to remember for the Maali, with the teams again winning three out of the four games played this week.

The Maali's first fixtures this week were against newcomers Fed Falcons from Federation University in Ballarat. The men's team were the first to tip off, and didn't waste any time, establishing a 17-point lead by the end of the first quarter. The Maali's lead only continued to widen throughuout the remainder of the match, with a 44-point lead by the end of the first half, and a 66-point lead by the end of the third period. The Maali didn't slow down in the final quarter, ending the game with an 80-point lead and score of 121-41. Nicholas Floyd was the Maali's top scorer with 35 points, followed by Declan Barrett and Connor Richards, who contributed 16 and 15 points respectively. Nick Blight took 15 rebounds, closely followed by Nicholas Floyd with 13.

It was then the Maali women's turn to take on the Falcons. The Maali again made a strong start, establishing a 5-point lead by the end of the first quarter. In a similar fashion to the men's game, the women continued to extend their lead throughout the match, finishing the first half with a 17 point lead, and the third quarter with a 28-point advantage. By the final whistle, the Maali women had extended their lead to 35 points, with a final score of 69-34. Ellie Newman was the Maali's top scorer with 18 points, and Jenna Teasdale took 15 rebounds, the most of the match.

Thursday was the day of the much anticipated Western Derby between the UWA Maali and Curtin Carnabys. The first match of the evening saw the women's teams take to the court in a closely contested match. By the end of the first quarter, the Carnabys managed to establish a 9 point lead, however the Maali remedied this in the second quarter, clawing back the lead. However, this was only temporary as the Carnabys continued to put points up on the board, and although the Maali were able to narrow the gap at times, the Carnabys emerged victorious with an 18-point win of 67-49. Keely Hatch scored 13 points in this match to make her the Maali's top scorer, and Jenna Teasdale took 11 rebounds.

The final Maali home game of the 2022 UBL season saw the Maali and Carnabys men's teams face off on the court in what was a very physical match. Once again, the Maali took a strong lead in the opening minutes, and although this was briefly lost to the Carnabys, were able to regain the lead before the end of the first quarter. Throughout the game, the Maali maintained an average lead of seven points - just enough to keep the cheering crowd on the edge of their seats - before consistent scoring in the final quarter saw the Maali extend their lead to win 87-68. Nicholas Floyd was both the Maali's top scorer of the match with 24 points, and also took a total of 16 rebounds to be the match leader. Rhys Hohenstein and Nick Blight also scored 16 and 12 points apiece.

The Maali are now heading back to Melbourne to compete against Victoria University and The University of Melbourne in their final fixures before finals. Next week also marks the Pride Round of the 2022 UBL Season. We have joined forces with UniSport to create awareness and demonstrate the importance of LGBTQIA+ inclusion for our diverse student population, particularly in sport. Next week, the Maali will be wearing rainbow socks to take a stand against discrimination alongside our LGBTQIA+ players, administrators and fans.
