Ensuring a safe bridge from University to industry, for our graduates to walk across, is an essential role many senior engineers can assist with.
The Engineering Industry Advisory Panel at The University of Western Australia, of which I am a member, has collected decades of engineering experience aimed at ensuring our graduates are ready and capable to cross this bridge. We want our our graduates to become the number one pick for future recruiters and to settle into their careers a little bit easier and faster.
As a panel, we are proud of the excellent relationships we have with the University academic staff. This relationship has allowed an open and rich debate to occur, through which we share important industry views for graduate engineers entering a wide range of workplaces.
Ensuring academic staff are aware of industry trends also allows them to tailor various subjects to the needs of industry and make our UWA graduates more ready.

The engineering degree at UWA can help students build their self-confidence and independence. Students join a university that was established over a hundred years ago and has nurtured some of our States most notable engineers.
At UWA our students have plenty of opportunities to make new friends from different countries and backgrounds and with strong industry links, many of our students enjoy the wide range of workplaces that offer internships and vacation opportunities.
An engineering degree at UWA gives students the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of their chosen subject via excellent academic staff and extensive modern facilities.
Importantly, the UWA experience will also allow students to develop essential life skills, such as effective communication, social skills and confidence. In industry, teams make things happen and surrounding oneself at UWA with an excellent cohort will allow our graduates to integrate and work effectively in these environments.
