Rural medical doctors in Western Australia are invited to apply for the Dr Arthur and Mary Newnham Fellowship.
Arthur and Mary established the fund in 1987 for the purpose of supporting professional development for rural doctors. Arthur was a GP who was passionate about supporting his colleagues in rural areas. Their children, Dr Ian Newnham, Ms Helen Newnham, Professor John Newnham and Mrs Jill Morgan, continue to share connections with UWA and are helping to realise their parents’ vision.
The fund was originally used to support leading medical educators to travel from Perth to regional areas but has since been repurposed to create a fellowship opportunity supporting clinical education or public health outcomes in the communities where rural doctors live and work.
Applicants must plan and execute an innovative project with a focus on either clinical education for rural medical peers or public health outcomes for rural communities, and/or undertake part-time flexible online coursework at the University of Western Australia.
