The University of Western Australia has a continual roll call of awards, scholarships and prizes presented to staff and students.

To recognise these achievements, an article is published on the UWA news page on the website and in UWA Forward on the first week of every month. If you know of great awards or achievements across the University please email [email protected]

Name: Bilya Marlee and Ezone buildings

Achievement: Bilya Marlee, the Indigenous Studies building, and Ezone, a student hub for engineers, are entrants in the WA Architecture Awards, with the Aboriginal centre also in the running for a landscape architect award. The buildings, designed by Kerry Hill Architects and Hassell respectively, are recognised for their innovative design balancing indoor and outdoor learning environments.

Name: Professor Paul M Parizel, David Hartley Chair of Radiology at UWA and Royal Perth Hospital

Professor Paul M Parizel

Achievement: Professor Parizel received the Gold Medal award from the European Society of Radiology, the world’s largest scientific and professional radiology society, with more than 120,000 members worldwide. The Gold Medal was awarded in recognition of Professor Parizel’s outstanding, internationally recognised achievements and leadership in the areas of neuroradiology and artificial intelligence.

Name: Professor Markus Schlaich, UWA Medical School

Achievement: Professor Markus Schlaich from UWA’s Dobney Hypertension Centre was awarded the Björn Folkow Award and Lecture for his outstanding contribution to the original research in physiology of the pathogenesis of hypertension.

Name: Associate Professor Danail Obreschkow, Dr Sascha Schediwy, ICRAR

Achievement:Associate Professor Obreschkow and Dr Schediwy are finalists in the Australian Space Awards 2021. They have been nominated in two categories for Academic of the Year, Researcher of the Year and Scientist of the Year.

Name: Declan Tingay, UWA Sports Science

Achievement: UWA student athlete Declan created a new record for the UniSport men’s 5000-metre race walk with a time of 19:04.60. The record had been standing since 2008.

Name: WA Centre for Rural Health

Achievement: The WA Centre for Rural Health received funding to produce an animated educational video that aims to educate parents, families, children, service providers and communities about the impact of violence and trauma on children’s developing brains and into adulthood.
