Applications close Wednesday 1 September
Inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Challenges, the Hawaii-based Tsuha Foundation has funded an innovative new UWA fellowship program to support the next generation of leaders from countries in Africa, the Indian Ocean Rim and South East Asia.
UWA is currently seeking interested individuals to apply for the fellowship, with the application period closing Wednesday 1 September 2021.
Beginning in October 2021, The Tsuha Global Fellows Program provides targeted educational, mentorship and networking opportunities with leading academics – helping the new Fellows develop advanced research, leadership and advocacy skills to apply evidence-based solutions to complex issues in their community and field of work – aligning with UWA’s Grand Challenges vision to unite world-class teaching, research and student experiences with communities to tackle some of the world’s most complex problems.
Successful applicants will be guided by a cross-disciplinary array of mentors, including Professor Petra Tschakert, Department of Geography & Planning, Professor Erika Techera, Law School, Dr David Mickler, School of Social Sciences, and the School of Population and Global Health’s Dr Ian Li, Associate Professor Justin Denny and Leah Cronn.
Further pursuing the UN Sustainable Development Goal 17 principle of ‘partnerships for sustainable development’ and UWA’s 2030 Vision to ‘create the next generation of global leaders through experience rich education’, the fellows will also build their network across the vibrant community of UWA and research community, encouraging the ongoing sharing of knowledge, ideas, experiences and best practices, with reciprocal benefits for the fellows, community and other stakeholders across government, industry and society.
“We are excited about the way our partnership with UWA will equip students in lower-income countries to become even stronger leaders,” The Tsuha Foundation said, when asked about the new program. “We look forward to the innovative solutions Fellows will create as a result of building connections and expertise through this program.”
The UWA Tsuha Global Fellows will be selected based on their proposed project, experience and education from the start of August 2021; further details on the program and applications can be found via the UWA School of Population and Global Health.
