Sculpt x ALVA: Artist-led Screen-printing Workshop for Students

Thursday, 29 August, 2024 6–8pm

UWA students are invited to learn how to screen print their very own personalised tote bag, inspired by Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery’s forthcoming exhibition, Stuffed, Bolstered and Upholstered.

With guidance from exhibiting artist Fiona Gavino, LWAG’s Sculpt Student Committee and ALVA Student Society have been busy designing stencils inspired by textiles on display in the exhibition. 

Participants will get to choose which design and colour they want for their own bag and then help to print additional bags which will be sold as merchandise at the exhibition opening on Friday 6th September.

Funds raised will help to support both the Sculpt program and local artists who have work in the LWAG shop.

The Exhibition:

Stuffed, Bolstered and Upholstered will be on display at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery from 7 September – 7 December 2024. The gallery is free to all and open Tuesday – Saturday, 12-5pm.

The Artist:

Fiona Gavino is an artist who explores the potential of using natural and repurposed materials to create non-traditional sculpture, installation, video, and print making.

This event was organised as a collaboration between Sculpt and ALVA:

Sculpt is LWAG’s own student advisory committee, consisting of 14 UWA students, who help to plan and implement programs to connect students to their campus gallery.

The ALVA Student Society, founded in 1967, is the faculty society representing architecture, landscape, and visual arts at the University of Western Australia School of Design.
