FOLWAG Lecture Series: Symbolism
Saturday 22 May, 1pm-3pm
The Friends of the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery invite you to join Dr Jan Altmann in discussion as part of the new Art History Lecture series.
Even when an artwork appears to be just recording a scene or telling a story there will often be symbols deeply embedded within the objects depicted and the way in which they are presented. Cultural symbols cannot escape their cultural significance – an apple is always associated with the Eden story, a dove in Christian iconography always means peace.
Refreshments provided.
