Winthrop Hall
Winthrop Hall offers bright acoustic, ideal for choral and classical music. When used in conjunction with the Undercroft exhibition centre downstairs, Winthrop Hall makes an excellent conference venue.
Built in 1932, the cathedral-like venue welcomes patrons with a marble and mosaic foyer, and vaulted ceilings. The auditorium holds a pipe organ, stained glass windows and Aboriginal motifs on the ceiling, and is air conditioned.
Winthrop Hall seats 974 people and has the option of a more intimate recital mode of seating for 674. It is equipped to host formal dinners and functions for up to 420 people. Catering can be provided on campus or brought in.
A small theatrical lighting rig provides a wash and specials for performances. Stage extensions are available to vary the stage area and the organ console can be played off-stage if necessary. Tiered choir stalls seat 156.
Winthrop Hall has been used for many prestigious events including the Rally Australia Ball, productions by the West Australian Opera and Oz Opera, the Choir of Kings College, Cambridge, and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. The Hall has welcomed many prime ministers, presidents and heads of state, and held the 2011 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, attended by Her Majesty the Queen.
