Career Pathways
Students graduating with an extended Major in Environmental Science and Management are equipped for careers in environmental science and policy analysis or a pathway to postgraduate study. Students taking the extended major in Environmental Science and Management will position themselves well in the job market by gaining fundamental scientific, economic and social science skills as well as being trained in networking, team work, leadership and communication of complex issues essential for future leaders.

Domestic Student Fees

Admission requirements
Prerequisites
This major requires:
- Mathematics Methods ATAR; OR
- Mathematics Applications ATAR with a mathematics unit taken in the first year; OR
- Students without ATAR mathematics to take two mathematics units in their first year.
- Chemistry ATAR or an additional chemistry unit taken in the first year.
English competency
English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA and you will need to meet the English language requirements of the University to be eligible for a place.
Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.
How to apply
The application process to the Doctor of Medicine is different for the assured and graduate entry pathways, and for international and domestic applicants.

Domestic Pathways to the Doctor of Medicine
- Domestic Assured Pathway/School Leaver Entry: Applications are lodged via TISC. Refer to TISC Online for current course codes and application deadlines.
- Domestic Graduate Entry: Applications are lodged via GEMSAS, which open and close in accordance with the GEMSAS timeline. All domestic applicants must submit a valid GAMSAT score by the application closing date.
International Pathways to the Doctor of Medicine
- International Assured Pathway/School Leaver Entry: Applications are lodged via UWA's online application system or via an authorised international education agent.
- International Graduate Entry: Applications are lodged via UWA's online application system or via an authorised international education agent.

I got involved with uni life from the day I started university. I joined as many clubs as I could during orientation week. I started uni with a mindset that I wanted to do more than just study from 9-5 and contribute to our campus life and the wider community. In my final year, I was the Guild’s Environment Officer and the President for UWA French Club. As the Environment Officer, I ran events and initiatives to promote sustainability on campus – from running EnviroFest to make your own keepcup events. My time at UWA was amazing as I had the opportunity to give back to students through something that I love.
My passion is to mainstream sustainable practices and technologies into our everyday lives to avoid creating a future defined by climate chaos.

Executive Director and Founder, Plastic Free July Foundation
My journey since studying at UWA certainly didn’t evolve as I had planned. Due to a death in my immediate family, plans for overseas work and further study were put on hold. I’ve worked in government and as a consultant on projects ranging from catchment mapping to community consultation to underwater surveys of abalone populations.
An interest in sustainable living led to working as a waste educator in Perth’s western suburbs and starting Plastic Free July. I have since had the opportunity to explore the plastic pollution problem and participate in research expeditions in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans. Though I’ve never worked as a scientist, the ability to evaluate information and read research papers has been critical to developing my understanding of the plastic pollution issue and ability to develop big picture solutions.
