What is Architecture?
Architecture is the conceptualisation and design of individual buildings and urban landscapes in response to existing and emerging environmental, social, technical and economic needs.
We offer pathways into a career in architecture via our 3-year undergraduate majors + 2-year Master of Architecture, or a 3.5-year Master of Architecture for holders of undergraduate degrees in other fields who wish to make a career change.
What is Landscape Architecture?
Landscape architecture is the planning, design and management of our natural and built landscapes for the benefit of communities and the future health of the planet.
We train landscape architects via our 3-year undergraduate major + 2-year Master of Landscape Architecture, or a 3-year Master of Landscape Architecture for holders of undergraduate degrees in other fields who wish to make a career change.
Mode of study
If you're living outside of the Perth Metropolitan Area you may remain 'at home' for the duration of this foundation year while remotely attending dedicated online classes with a cohort of students dispersed across the regions, in WA and beyond. Classes will be live and interactive with teaching staff based on the UWA Perth Campus at the School of Design. You have the option of attending interactive online classes either on-site at UWA's regional campus in Albany or from home.
Scheduled online contact hours will be approximately 12 hours per week. Once per semester, a week of immersive in-person classes will be conducted either on the UWA Perth campus or at one or more regional locations.
You may enrol full time or part-time. While commencement in Semester 1 is encouraged, it is also possible to commence in Semester 2.

Admission requirements
For entry to the Bachelor of Environmental Design, you must have:
- achieve a minimum ATAR of 75 or equivalent; or
- an Assured Pathway offer (such as to the Master of Architecture with a minimum ATAR of 92); or
- achieved a score of at least 100 in UWA's Experience-based Entry assessment; or
- a place in a relevant AcessUWA program.
Applicants must also satisfy the University's English language competence requirement as set out in the University Policy on Admission: Coursework.

What's next
Upon completion of the Design@Home foundation program, you would then take the remaining units (two years of full time or part-time equivalent) in the Architecture major or Landscape Architecture extended major on campus at the School of Design, located at the UWA Perth campus.
Following successful completion of the course requirements for the Bachelor of Environmental Design you may apply to enrol in the Master of Architecture or Master of Landscape Architecture.
