Cell and Molecular Life Facility
The Cell and Molecular Life Facility – The link between genetics and life
The Cell and Molecular Life Facility offers state-of-the-art technology to staff and students whose research investigates diverse insults affecting animal and human cells and tissues. Understanding how cells respond to diverse insults at the molecular level, helps to develop alternative and advanced therapeutic methods integrating latest technology.
Research conducted in the Cell and Molecular – Life Facility lead to a better understanding of cell and body function, help develop therapeutics and contribute to prevent disease. Investigating changes at the molecular level gives researchers the opportunity to understand the effects of genes on cell and body function (and vice versa) at an early stage of insult manifestation. The research outcomes generated by the researchers, staff and students are peer reviewed, published in high-impact journals and presented at national and international conferences.
The PC2 certified facility is located within the School of Human Sciences and offers advanced molecular biology techniques at a high standard that can be-tailored to specific research projects.
The Cell and Molecular- Life facilities operational infrastructure meets international standards for research and teaching, and is one of the core facilities within science. The facility is certified by the Office of Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) as Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2), with dedicated suites for various workflows. It also provides opportunities to integrate with Histology and Imaging @ Science, located in the same building.
Facility services
Services within the facility cover a broad range of teaching molecular techniques in a module-based concept, supported by hands-on training led by expert technicians. Staff are also available to support components of research projects, help optimise techniques and protocols, problem solve outcomes and conduct pilot studies for competitive funding applications or proof-of-concept.
