Apply to study at UWA CELT
You need a visa to study in Australia, to apply for a course and to apply to be registered for Overseas Student Health Cover.
Choosing a visa
You can study full-time or part-time for up to 12 weeks if you have a visitor visa or up to 17 weeks on a working holiday visa. If you want to study for longer, you must study full-time on a student visa. Please visit the Department of Home Affairs website for the most current and complete information about visa requirements and inclusions.
New Student Visa Changes as of March 2024
On 23rd March 2024, the Australian Government introduced changes to English language requirements for international students seeking to study in Australia on a student visa (Subclass 500). Further details can be found at the Australian Government's, Department of Home Affairs website.
Overview of the recent changes
For students only studying English, there will be no change.
For other programs including Degrees, Foundation and Diplomas:
- The minimum score required for a Student Visa from an IELTS test score increases from 5.5 to 6.0 (or equivalent approved test, see below)
- The minimum score required to undertake a packaged ELICOS from IELTS increases from 4.5 to 5.0 (or equivalent approved test, see below)
- The test score required for students undertaking university foundation or pathway programs that deliver reputable English language training will be IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent).
Students must have completed the English language test within either:
- The 2 years before the date your visa application is lodged
- The 2 years before a decision is made on your visa application if you did not provide evidence of the English language test at the time your application was lodged.

**From 12 February 2024, only results from the paper-based Cambridge C1 Advanced test (previously known as Cambridge English: Advanced CAE) will be accepted for Australian visa and migration purposes. Test scores for both C1 Advanced paper-based and computer-based tests, taken before 12 February 2024, within the specified validity period are still accepted.
Please note: English Language requirements for student visas may differ to those needed to meet UWA course entry. Students may be requested by the Department of Home Affairs to provide different documentation as proof of English Language proficiency for each, regardless of their country of citizenship.

How to apply for a course at UWA CELT
- Complete all sections of the application form including the personal details, study plan, visa information and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
- If you need accommodation, airport reception and transfer, please complete the relevant sections of the form
- Once completed and signed, the application can be sent to UWA CELT
- Upon receiving your application CELT will send a letter of offer giving instructions for your chosen method of payment
Application forms
Accepting your offer (Bridging Course students)
- You will accept your offer through the UWA Dashboard
- Through this portal you will complete your acceptance of offer and refund policy, and will need to upload a copy of the personal details page of your passport
- You will also pay for your course through this portal, either by credit card or telegraphic transfer
- After you have completed your acceptance through the UWA Dashboard, you will receive an email confirming your offer acceptance
- You will receive a separate email with your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
Accepting your offer (Language and Communication Essentials, English for Academic Purposes and IELTS course students)
- After receiving your offer letter, you can pay for your course by credit card or telegraphic transfer
- Please return proof of payment along with a signed copy of the Terms and Conditions of Enrolment
- UWA CELT will send you orientation information and a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), if you are applying for a student visa, when we receive full payment for your course
- If you are not enrolling through an education agent, take the electronic Confirmation of Enrolment and other documents required to your nearest Australian Embassy or Consulate
