Featured scientists

Professor Kevin Judd
Kevin Judd

Professor Judd of the School Mathematics and Statistics at UWA has a research focus on nonlinear time series analysis and the application to dynamical systems theory to forecasting.

He is particularly interested in understanding and quantifying uncertainty of forecasts when using imperfect forecast models. He has collaborated widely with meteorologists, climate scientists, engineers, physicists, medical doctors, social scientists, and linguists.

Professor Stephan Lewandowsky
Stephan Lewandowsky

Professor Stephan Lewandowsky is an Australian Professorial Fellow and cognitive scientist in the School of Psychology at UWA. His research focuses on the role of scepticism in memory updating and the distinction between scepticism and denial.

Professor Malcolm McCulloch, F.R.S.
Prof McCulloch

Professor McCulloch is a Premier's Fellow and research leader at UWA's Oceans Institute, and he was recently elected to the prestigious Royal Society.

Professor McCulloch is a distinguished isotope geochemist who, over many years, has made highly original contributions to our understanding of the Earth and early solar systems.

Professor Charitha Pattiaratchi
Charitha Pattiaratchi

Professor Charitha Pattiaratchi holds bachelor's, master's and PhD degrees from the University of Wales, UK. He is currently Head of the School of Environmental Systems Engineering.

His research interests are in coastal physical oceanography and coastal sediment transport, with an emphasis on field experiments and numerical modelling. He has played an active role in examining climate change effects in coastal regions of Western Australia with particular emphasis on sea level variability, coastal flooding and beach stability.

Dr Karl-Heinz Wyrwoll
Karl-Heinz Wyrwoll

Karl-Heinz Wyrwoll is an earth scientist in the School of Earth and Environment at UWA.

His research interests extend across the fields of physical geography, geology and past climates, including climate modeling. He collaborates with climate scientists in the UK, USA and China on the modeling of past climates – this work provides theories on possible future climate states.

Associate Professor Pauline Grierson

Assoc Professor Pauline Grierson of the School of Plant Biology at UWA has a research focus on ecosystem biogeochemistry, tree physiology and impacts of hydroclimatic variability on ecosystems.

She is also the Director of the West Australian Biogeochmeistry Centre and is particularly interested in understanding and quantifying rainfall variability across western Australia over recent millenia, with a strong emphasis on using oxygen and carbon isotopes to trace climatic signals in tree rings . She collaborates widely with climate scientists, hydrogeologists, environmental engineers, and ecosystem ecologists.
