About Children's University
To inspire a passion for lifelong learning from a young age and as part of its commitment to widen participation and support students from diverse backgrounds to access higher education, The University of Western Australia (UWA) is partnering with Edith Cowan University (ECU) and Children’s University Australasia.
Through the Children’s University Western Australia Partnership (CUWAP) and with the UWA Albany Centre, UWA is delighted to bring Children’s University to schools and communities in Albany, the Peel region and Perth.
Through a ‘Passport to Learning’, children aged 7-14 from partner primary schools participate in learning activities of their choice beyond the classroom. Their achievements are recognised each year with a formal graduation and certificates, where children wear caps and gowns just like older students do at university graduations. Families are closely involved in the program, joining children in their learning journey and supporting their goals.
The CUWAP program embraces local learning opportunities offered by places such as public libraries, zoos, parks, museums, art galleries, theatres, sporting clubs, school clubs as well as businesses. All learning experiences are designed to have links to higher education learning and courses.
You can learn more about the program's impact through the CUWAP 2020-2023 Impact Report [PDF 27MB] and the recent evaluation of the program model by ACER.
We would like to thank the following supporters of the Children’s University at UWA:

How you can be involved
The Children’s University Western Australia Partnership team welcome anyone who shares our commitment to fostering aspirations and a love of learning for children of all backgrounds to consider supporting Children’s University in Western Australia.
Schools first become a Children’s University Australasia (CUA) member and appoint a School Coordinator before inviting interested students at their school to become members. Although open to all, the CUA program particularly aims to reach children and young people, aged seven to 14 years, facing socio-economic and educational disadvantage. Families interested in participating can encourage their school to join the program.
Public Learning Destinations that provide outstanding learning opportunities for children and their families are critical to the success of Children’s University.
Members of the UWA community, including staff, students or alumni, can work with the Children’s University team to provide outstanding learning activities for primary school students, or volunteer for events such as Children’s University annual graduations.
Please contact the team to learn more about the program and find out how to be involved.
