School leavers and undergraduates
Have you achieved your WACE but didn't meet the minimum ATAR requirements for UWA? AccessUWA may be for you.
AccessUWA provides you with an opportunity to enrol in units at UWA without being formally admitted to a degree course. Upon successful completion of a minimum number of units, you can apply for undergraduate admission based on your AccessUWA results.
- How it works
-
Once you have successfully completed a minimum of 24 credit points (equivalent to one semester of full-time study or four six-point units) through AccessUWA, you are eligible to apply for a place at UWA through the University's normal admissions process.
You can use AccessUWA study to gain entry to:- Bachelor of Arts
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science
- Bachelor of Business
- Bachelor of Commerce
- Bachelor of Environmental Design
- Bachelor of Science
AccessUWA study cannot be used for entry to the Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) or Assured Pathways in Medicine, Dentistry or Law.
Units studied through AccessUWA will be listed separately to your bachelor’s degree course on your Enrolment Statement. - Eligibility
-
This entry pathway is available to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and holders of permanent humanitarian visas and is often used by students whose Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) was not high enough to gain direct admission to UWA. Students undertaking AccessUWA study straight after high school should have achieved the WA Certificate of Education (or equivalent), as AccessUWA is not intended as an alternative to normal senior secondary qualifications.
Each year, a number of students who narrowly miss out on direct entry to UWA degrees, complete AccessUWA studies during one semester, and gain formal entry to a UWA degree in the following semester (provided they have satisfied admission prerequisites).
AccessUWA is also available to international visitors on a temporary resident visa or another category of visa that allows you to study in Australia for the duration of the unit.
Completing study through AccessUWA does not automatically satisfy prerequisite requirements or the University's English Language Competence requirement. You may have already met these requirements through your year-twelve studies or other tests. We suggest you contact Admissions before applying for units through AccessUWA to discuss these requirements. - Selecting your unit
-
Most units at UWA are available for study through the AccessUWA program. Not sure what unit to choose? The UWA Handbook contains all the unit descriptions, unit codes and any pre-requisites that may be required.
Alternatively you can contact school staff who can assist with the choice of units, pre-requisites and crediting of units to a degree.
To ensure you make an informed choice when selecting units and are well placed to compete for entry to your choice of degree, we recommend that you contact Admissions. They can assist you with the choice of units, meeting any pre-requisites and the possibility of crediting of these units to a degree in the future.
- Applications and approvals
-
After choosing your units and speaking with a relevant Faculty Student Advisor, you're ready to submit an AccessUWA application.
You need to complete the application form and submit online. You will then receive an email that confirms your application has been successfully submitted, requests payment of your tuition fees and asks for evidence of your citizenship (using a passport, birth certificate or Australian Citizenship certificate).
Tuition fees are payable online using a Visa or Mastercard. If you have studied at another university other than UWA or did not complete your high school studies in Australia, you may be required to provide a hard copy original of your Academic Transcript.
Once we have received your AccessUWA application, tuition fees and sighted your ID, we will facilitate the approval of your application by the relevant faculty. The approval process may take up to 7 working days.
As an AccessUWA applicant you are required to meet the same prerequisites and requirements as degree students and are subject to the same UWA statutes and regulations as other UWA students.
All AccessUWA applications are sent to the student adviser in the relevant faculty for approval and are subject to the availability of places, and unit selection
After receiving approval for your chosen units, we will finalise your enrolment. You will receive an email outlining how to complete your enrolment, including information on obtaining your campus card, activating your university IT account and selecting your tutorials.
